Preity's godfather passes away

Shandar Amrohi, who considered the star his daughter, died in Goa
Shandar Amrohi, who was known for considering Preity Zinta his daughter, passed away in Goa on August 21. The son of Kamal Amrohi, the 68-year-old was one of the owners of Kamalistan Studios, which had long been the subject of a legal battle. Shandar had claimed to be Preity's adoptive father after she supported him in a case that he had filed in March 2010 against his sister Rukhsar and her son, Waseem, alleging forgery and theft of share documents pertaining to the family property.

On hearing the news of his death, Preity posted on her Twitter page, "May God give peace to Shandarji's soul ! This is for the one who always talked about this journey but never saw it coming.... RIP!"

In an earlier interview, Shandar's brother Tajdar had said: "My brother (Shandar) considers Preity as his daughter. She is a blessing in disguise for us. She is a very strong girl and is fighting for the right cause. God bless her"

While Preity acknowledged that she was close to the Amrohis, she denied being adopted. "No1 has or ever will adopt me or sign me in a will. Things said in interviews and reported are far from facts as the proof is in the pudding!," Preity had posted on her Twitter page when the story first began doing the rounds.

Shandar Amrohi's biography 'Nowhere To Somewhere', was supposed to have detailed his relationship with Preity and explained the reasons why he wanted to leave his property to her. When this didn't go down well with Preity, he decided to leave out the part about her from the biography.
